We went to the 29th & Green Bistro to celebrate a friend's birthday. The atmosphere was really nice and laid-back. The food was delicious. I decided to try the fish and grits, and at first, I thought they skimped on the fish. But to my surprise, there was actually more fish hidden underneath the grits. The food was really good when I visited with family a few weeks ago but the service was unexpectedly bad. My sister and brother in law were running late so we ordered drinks and appetizers. Vodka tonic, gin and tonic, long island and a specialty drink. They arrived maybe 15 minutes later but the 4 of us still didn't have drinks. They ordered and her drink came before everyone who arrived early. They ordered food and appetizers and their meals came before everyone else. The 6 of us ended up sharing their appetizers and entrees. Our food did eventually come and was good. The food came out very staggered with the last entree coming out well after 5 others were eating. It was odd since there were maybe 2 other tables seated and they were not large groups or parties. The most annoying part was separating the checks. I didn't realize my mom asked for a separate check until I saw her pay. The waitress forgot to add my mom's appetizer to her bill. I said to just add it to my bill. That caused my bill to be over $100. The waitress ran my credit card but later came back saying the was a problem and $20 didn't process. It wasn't possible to be above my credit limit so I was confused. She didn't understand either. I got both checks printed out to compare and saw a 20% separate check fee for bills over $100. I've worked in restaurants since I was 13 and my mom and sister have worked in restaurants and managed restaurants. I've never heard of a separate check fee and certainly not 20%. It wasn't even our fault that the fee was triggered since the waitress made a mistake on my mother's bill. I spoke with the manager who refunded me in cash since my card was already charged. We're in Virginia Beach so probably won't make the drive to visit again.
I just discovered this place recently. It's a hidden gem in Hampton VA. The decor is inviting and gives you a chill vibe with relaxed atmosphere. The bartender Kalasha provided great customer service while I waited for my food. She informed me of the red velvet waffles and other brunch specials on Sunday. She also told me about the weekly night specials. I had the Salmon bites with Mac & Cheese and Greens which was delicious. It didn't take them long to make it and it was definitely worth my while. I'll be returning to check out more of their food and to relax. If you're ever in Hampton I highly recommend them.
We visited the restaurant on a quiet Wednesday when there were only four people there. However, it took us 15 minutes to get a table. Our waitress was smoking hookah at the bar while we waited for over 10 minutes just to get our drinks. Although the food was good, we were dissatisfied with the service. I would not recommend this place if you happen to be in Hampton.
I just had a terrible experience. It took 45 minutes for my wings to arrive, only for them to come out undercooked and not even the sweet chili flavor I ordered. No one apologized for the delay, and to top it off, they still charged me for the fries—even though they fudged up my order and they ran out of blue cheese.
